How to Sterlize Silicone Teether 5 Useful Ways

Silicone baby teether is a must-have for infants to release teethering pain. But babies always leave their teether ring or toy anywhere they like. It’s very easy to get lost or dirty on the ground. So as a parent, it is essential to protect them against bacteria.

In this article, we will introduce you 5 useful ways on how to sterlize silicone teether.

Table of Contents

    Boiling water

This is the most common and safe method for us to sterilize teethers.

    1. First, fill a pot with enough water to cover the teethers. Bring the water to a boil.
    2. Then use tongs or chopsticks to dip your silicone teether in the boiled water for about 3 minutes.
    3. After taking out, let it dry naturally before giving it back to baby.

You can also use this method when cleaning other items such as bottles or nipples. And make sure not to leave any bubbles or foam on silicone teether during this process because it will cause bacteria growth in that area. The only downside of boiling is that which takes too much time and effort from parents who are always busy with their children (especially if they have more than one child).

Nevertheless, this is still a good way if you really want to disinfect items carefully without using chemicals.

    Baking soda and water

You can also use baking soda and water to sterilize your silicone teether.

    1. First, prepare a bowl with warm water and add baking soda in it.
    2. Then soak the teether for about 15 minutes,
    3. Then rinse it with clean water.

You need to be careful not to leave these items in the mixture too long because it will cause irritation on baby’s skin when they bite on that area later.

If you have time, you can sterilize your teether by this method every week or 2 weeks.

This is still a good way without using chemicals and safe for our kids as well as our environment.

    Water and white vinegar

You can also use white vinegar instead of baking soda to sterlize your teethers. This is how you do it:

    1. Fill a bowl with water and white vinegar (1 part water, 1 part vinegar).
    2. Submerge the teethers in the mixture. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.
    3. Rinse under running water and dry completely before giving it back to your baby to use.

Just make sure you rinse it off really well afterwards. You don’t want your baby to end up with a mouth full of vinegar!

      Washing machine

If your washing machine has a special cycle for delicate items, this is an easy way to sterilize baby’s teethers because it will automatically set the time needed according to the type of item being washed.

You just need to put it into a mesh laundry bag and add 1/2 cup of white vinegar(or other mild detergent) to the load along with your regular laundry detergent.

But if we don’t have such cycles on our machines, we should not wash our teether with other clothes because there is a risk that sharp objects or other debris could damage its soft surface during the spin cycle which may cause irritation when children bite on them later.

Therefore, only using hand wash mode would be safer for us . And remember to dry everything thoroughly after washing so that bacteria won’t grow back easily in wet environments.

      Electric Steamer

This is a new way for us to sterilize teethers that can be done using an electric steamer.

First, we need to fill the water tank with distilled water and place our items inside since they should not touch each other or the bottom of the container. If it’s possible, keep them upright so that no water can get inside them which may cause damage later.

Then turn on the steam sterlizer and let it work until there is enough steam in the chamber (for about 5-10 minutes).

And finally, open the door after cooling down to remove your items from there
